Handbuilding Demo Workshop
with Lana Wilson
January 25th, 10-4
Lana will demo her four layers of colored slips and sgraffito process that yields a shibori painterly look and will share the simple formulas for the colored slips and the glazes used and suggest what commercial products also work. More offered: unusual construction methods with soft slabs of clay to create bowls, cups and her favorite three fast easy high success techniques. One technique produces barnacles, the next making a piece only from the back and a surprising “drop everything” technique that yields a never touched look with soft texture. . Also included: use of a sink mat with stamps for textured functional ware, sprigging, multi-level tiles, and more. Questions will be encouraged, many handouts offered and laughter assumed and assured. . Lana’s book and DVD can be available. Her work can be seen at www.lanawilson.com

1101 LX Clear cone 5/6
Leslie’s has a new cone 5/6 clear, 1101 LX Clear, specially formulated to fit mid-range porcelains. In the past you were forced to use Laguna’s notoriously difficult to apply MS-29 Clear Bright to get a good fit with tight bodied mid-range clays. The new 1101 in contrast brushes on like a dream has a pink dye added which makes even application much easier. After extensive tests by Leslies and by Leslie customers (Thank you!) the clear has recieved rave reviews and has performed beautifully.
Soon we will be introducing a cone 5/6 Satin Clear that shows great promise as well so stay tuned.
